Ever since the beginning of her music career, Britney Spears has been a lightning rod for public attention, whether it be for better or worse. Spears came onto the scene during the 1990s and instantly became one of the biggest names in pop music. Since then, she has achieved legendary status and to this day is one of the most talked-about people. This doesn’t apply just to music but in general.

Spears has had moments that have cemented her status as an icon, as well as moments that became the headlines for tabloids around the world. Let’s take a look at Spears’s career and remember some of the times when Spears broke the internet, causing a massive reaction (either good or bad).

The Head Shave

2007 was an extremely tough year for Britney Spears, and on February 16, she reached a boiling point. With the paparazzi looking on, Spears shaved her head almost completely bald while sitting inside a hair salon. For Spears, it came at a time when she wasn’t able to see her two sons following her split with Kevin Federline. Years later, we found out the reason why Spears shaved her head.

Tattoo artist Emily Wynee-Hughes was the first one to speak with Spears immediately after it happened. When she asked Spears why, Wynee-Hughes said “It was, you know, ‘I just don’t want anybody touching my head. I don’t want anyone touching my hair. I’m sick of people touching my hair.’” 

Umbrella Attack

Shortly after Spears shaved her head, she continued to be a target for the paparazzi, with members of the press trying to catch her on film during her downward spiral. Spears grabbed an umbrella and started swinging it at a car owned by a paparazzo. The attack was caught on camera, and Spears was silent on the topic for months.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2007 that Spears addressed the situation. “I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done four months ago regarding an umbrella,” she said. “I was preparing my character for a role in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally. I take all my roles very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the part.”

Britney’s Freed

For much of her career, Spears had been in conservatorship with her father having control over her estate. Once this was revealed to the public, there was an outcry that led to a trending hashtag, #FreeBritney. This sparked interest in revisiting the conservatorship, especially following the release of the documentary “Framing Britney Spears”.

2021 saw the big push to have this conservatorship removed  It took several months and a lot of court appearances, but on November 21, Spears’s conservatorship came to an end. Shortly thereafter, Spears went back to releasing music, even teaming up with Elton John to record what would end up being a top-10 hit. While the conservatorship has been debated since then, it was a big moment for Spears.

VMA Appearances

It was hard to pick just one of her performances from the MTV Video Music Awards, so we’ll just include the back-to-back performances from 2000 and 2001. The first of the two featured Spears in her sparkling nude-colored outfit. During the performance, Spears belted out “Oops!…I Did It Again” followed by a cover of the Rolling Stones hit “Satisfaction”.

The next year, Spears was somehow able to kick it up a notch when she performed “I’m A Slave 4 U”. This time around, Spears brought out a live Burmese python. Spears said that she received a pep talk from Justin Timberlake prior to the performance when the two were dating, helping to relieve some of the nerves she was feeling prior to taking the stage. 

Chaotic

In 2004, Spears had a whirlwind year when it came to her love life. Early in the year, she married Jason Alexander (not the one from “Seinfeld”), but the marriage lasted for just 55 hours. Just a few months later, Spears got married to Kevin Federline, and it was the start of people really starting to wonder about Spears’s personal life.

Things really got interesting in 2005 with the release of the reality television show “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic”, which premiered on May 17, 2005. Spears seemed to be erratic throughout the show and left people with a lot of questions. Several years after it happened, Spears looked back at it in a bad light. “I would never do something like that again,” she said. “Actually, that was really bad. That was probably the worst thing I’ve done in my career.”

Lip-syncing isn’t the worst thing in the world since there are a lot of artists who need to move around the stage, and the acoustics of certain venues make live performances sound flat-out bad. Then, there are times when the venue is just fine and the artist isn’t doing anything spectacular on stage, but they cop out of performing live and let the recorded track do the work for them.

There have been several instances where an artist was caught lip-syncing during a performance when they had no real reason to. For some, it has pretty much been a career-ender, while others were able to bounce back because they had a decent excuse. Here are five artists who were caught lip-syncing during live performances. For the sake of the list, we’re excluding any Super Bowl performances where lip-syncing is expected.

Milli Vanilli

There is perhaps no greater example of lip-syncing ending careers than Milli Vanilli. The duo was comprised of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, and they churned out a slew of hits in the late 1980s which included “Blame It On the Rain” and “Girl You Know It’s True”. This led to the duo earning the 1990 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, but it was one they’d have to give back.

During a live performance that aired on MTV in July 1989, Milli Vanilli was performing “Girl You Know It’s True,” but the track skipped and Pilatus ran off stage. Many brushed it off, but it was revealed not too long afterward that Morvan and Pilatus weren’t the actual singers. They were lip-syncing the vocals of three other men including Charles Shaw and Brad Howell. With that, Milli Vanilli disbanded and gave back their Grammy.

Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee Simpson came to prominence after her older sister Jessica became a hit singer and reality television star. As for her own career, Ashlee got off to a good start thanks to her debut album “Autobiography” which included hits like “La La” and “Pieces of Me”. Shortly after the album’s release, Simpson performed the latter song on “Saturday Night Live”.

When she came out for her second song, “Autobiography”, “Pieces of Me” started playing again. It proved that Simpson had lip-synced her first performance, and it became an awkward scene as she did a little jig and walked off the stage. Simpson blamed it on acid reflux and said she made a fool of herself. It was essentially the end of her music career which had just gotten started.

Mariah Carey

You can be one of the best singers of all time and still get caught lip-syncing every now and then. Carey, who is known for an endless list of hits which include “We Belong Together” and “Fantasy”, has had a few instances of obvious lip-syncing during her time. When welcoming in 2017 during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, though, she had a pretty egregious example of lip-syncing.

Social media was ablaze with jokes about Carey’s performance, and she came out of it feeling bitter. Carey said it was her in-ear audio that was throwing her off. “It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future,” she said. “But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team.”

Britney Spears

The Princess of Pop has had her fair share of controversies throughout her career, and lip-syncing feels like just a footnote for Britney Spears. Spears, who has released hits including “…Baby One More Time”, “Toxic” and “Womanizer” has had a few incidents, but perhaps none more famous than during her residency in Las Vegas.

During one performance in 2014, Spears was set to lip-sync alongside her song “Perfume”. However, the cover version by Sia started playing. Spears’s team tried to get the audio wiped from YouTube uploads, but it was too late. Still, Spears didn’t suffer too badly from the incident.

Beyonce

One of the most influential figures in music history, Beyonce has a following that is beyond loyal and no amount of lip-syncing could ever ruin her reputation. Still, that didn’t stop some people from criticizing Beyonce for lip-syncing during one of the more important events in the United States: the Presidential Inauguration.

The inauguration was for Barack Obama, who had won his re-election and beginning his second term as the United States President. Beyonce was tabbed to sing the national anthem and lip-synced her way through. Beyonce admitted that the performance was pre-recorded because she didn’t have time to rehearse. Instead, she had been warming up for her Super Bowl halftime performance which came just days later.

When people are talking about what they would do if they came into a lot of money, a lot of them say that they would end up buying at least one expensive car and possibly start a collection. You can make a car collection for just a few thousand dollars, but it will probably be made exclusively of cars that don’t run. If you want a collection of luxury cars, it could set you back millions of dollars.

There are plenty of celebrities that collect cars that cost six figures or more, with some making it their primary hobby. Let’s take a look at the celebrities who have amassed the most impressive collections and break down how much they may have spent on acquiring all of their rides.

Floyd Mayweather

On the list of greatest boxers ever, Floyd Mayweather finds himself toward the top of the list. The Michigan native won all 50 of his professional fights before retiring, earning himself 15 world championships in the process, as well as a bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Mayweather owns a car collection that’s estimated to be well over $20 million. The most expensive piece in his collection is a Rolls-Royce section that set him back more than $3 million alone. Mayweather owns several Bugatti Veyrons, his favorite model. There are plenty of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and much more in his collection, too. What makes Mayweather’s collection so unique is an identical collection in two different cities with all of his cars in Los Angeles in black and all of his Las Vegas cars in white.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga had one of the most successful debut albums ever when she released “The Fame” in 2007 and never looked back as a pop star. Thanks to hits including “Poker Face”, “Telephone”, and “Bad Romance”, she became a music legend and has also dabbled in acting with great success.

Some might not take Lady Gaga as a car aficionado, but she has a collection that’s unrivaled by just about any other celebrity. Instead of going with a long list of sports cars like Mayweather, Gaga likes to stick to classic cars. Some of her cars include a 1965 Lincoln Continental convertible and a 1970 Chevy El Camino. Gaga also has some newer cars including a Lamborghini Huracan that she drove from Texas to California.

John Cena

On the Mount Rushmore of professional wrestlers, you would have to include John Cena. He started with the WWE in 2002 and found himself in first place for most world championships in the promotion’s history. Cena has also branched out into acting, starring in films such as “Bumblebee”, “The Suicide Squad”, and “The Fast & Furious 9”.

Cena’s car collection spans all eras from his 19606 Dodge Hemi Charger 426 to his newer Lamborghinis. Cena is a big fan of muscle cars and owns a Dodge Viper, Chevy Corvette, a Ford GT, and much more. In terms of diversity, Cena might take the cake for celebrities as he doesn’t stick to just one kind of car. It’s estimated that his cars combined are worth over $5 million, even if his favorite car is the simple 1989 Jeep Wrangler.

Justin Bieber

YouTube has helped make stars out of common people, but it all started with Justin Bieber. After being discovered thanks to his videos on the internet, Bieber was signed to a record deal and became perhaps the biggest pop star in the world. Some of Bieber’s biggest hits include “Sorry”, “Love Yourself”, and “Baby”.

Bieber has a little bit of everything in his car collection, and that even includes a Hummer H2 and a minivan. Bieber also has several luxury cars including an Audi R8 and a Bugatti that was gifted to him by rapper/producer Birdman. Out of all of his cars, though, Bieber’s favorite that he’s owned was the Cadillac CTS-V. 

Lil’ Wayne

Born Dwayne Carter Jr., Lil’ Wayne got his rap career off the ground even before becoming a teenager as he was signed to Cash Money Records. He then went on to become one of the biggest names in rap thanks to hit songs including “Lollipop”, “A Milli”, and “6 Foot 7 Foot” to name a few.

Lil’ Wayne has spent over $5 million to build his impressive car collection which includes a Porsche Boxter and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The most expensive car in his collection is a Bugatti Veyron which set him back nearly $2 million. The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead also set him back another half-million. When Lil’ Wayne is giving a gift to someone, his mind immediately goes to cars.

Everyone in the world has someone that looks almost exactly like them. Very rarely does someone and their exact doppelganger both end up becoming famous, though. In Hollywood, there have been many instances where someone has said that one celebrity looks like another. In a lot of cases, however, we just don’t see it. Then there are those that seem like they could be identical twins, with these five pairs of celebrities being true doppelgangers for one another.

Will Ferrell and Chad Smith

One is an actor known for his roles in “Anchorman”, “Talladega Nights” and “Step Brothers” while the other is the drummer for the famous rock group, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As a group, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold tens of millions of albums and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

The two look so similar that there are still people who believe that they are actually brothers. They are six years apart in age, so it really isn’t that outlandish to think that they could be. When the internet took notice of their nearly-matching identities, the two had a drum-off on “The Tonight Show” wearing the same outfit, and it was hard to tell the two apart.

Chelsea Handler and Elizabeth Banks

Chelsea Handler got her start in television while part of the Oxygen hidden-camera show “Girls Behaving Badly”. She was able to parlay this into an acting career and landed a long-running talk show on E! Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks got her start as an actress in the soap opera circuit and went on to become a movie star with roles in “Role Models”, “Power Rangers”, and “The Lego Movie”.

The two actresses are friends and are mistaken for one another constantly while out in public. Banks said in an interview (with Handler, of course) that she was in Toronto and was asked for an autograph by a fan thinking she was Handler. “I was just hanging out, being Chelsea, drinking my vodka, and having a good time,” Banks said.

Zoe Saldana and Thandie Newton

Zoe Saldana was originally a dancer, but she started landing more acting roles after she made her debut in the 2000 film “Center Stage”. Since then, Saldana has been part of some significant movie franchises including both “Star Trek” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thandie Newton has been in a wide range of films over the years such as “The Pursuit of Happyness”, “2012”, and “RockNRolla” just to name a few.

The two are mistaken for each other so frequently that even members of Saldana’s family have gotten confused…and that includes her mother. “My mom still thinks that I’m in Westworld,” Saldana said. “I’m like, ‘Years ago, you thought that I was in Traffic.’ I’m like, ‘Mom, you did not give birth to Thandie Newton.” The two have met and have become friends over the years.

Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard

During the late 1990s, Jessica Chastain was a stage actress who made her way to the screen in the late 2000s in her early 30s. Since her debut in “Jolene”, Chastain has starred in films that include “The Tree of Life”, “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Martian”, while also winning an Oscar for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”. Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of actor and director Ron Howard, has starred in “The Lady in the Water”, “Spider-Man 3”, and the new “Jurassic Park” trilogy.

Not only do they have the same hair color, but they’re only a couple of years apart from each other in age and share similar facial features. Chastain posted a video about how she’s not Bryce Dallas Howard with the caption “When you spend 20 years building a career and they still think you work at Jurassic Park.” It’s all in good fun, though, as the two have acknowledged to each other in person that they look alike.

Margot Robbie and Jaime Pressly

Australian actress Margot Robbie has been one of the top actresses of her generation thanks to her roles in films including “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, and “I, Tonya”. Jaime Pressly has been around for a bit longer, getting her start in the early 2000s and starring in the films “Joe Dirt” and “Not Another Teen Movie”, as well as the TV shows “Mom” and “My Name Is Earl”.

While they’re more than a decade apart in age, the two look like they could certainly be related. Some have even called Robbie “the Pressly of her generation.” Pressly has said that she gets mistaken for Robbie “all the time.” Neither one is complaining that they get mistaken for one another as that’s not exactly an insult.

Car accidents are going to happen to most of us at one point, with an estimated three-quarters of people getting into some sort of accident. Thankfully, a massive chunk of these accidents are not life-threatening and the only real pain comes from opening up your wallet or dealing with your insurance company. Then, there are those that seem to have all of the bad luck and get into more than just fender benders every now and then.

Celebrities are no exception, and there are a lot of causes for this. Some of it is self-inflicted, while others have just been flat-out unfortunate. Here’s a look at five celebrities who have a bad history of driving, detailing the incidents they’ve been in along the way.

Pete Doherty

British singer Pete Doherty has been involved with several bands throughout his career, including The Libertines and Babyshambles. Doherty is known for his persona off-stage just as much (if not more) than his actual singing career.

The first major driving offense for Doherty came in 2007 when he was in possession of several drugs while driving a vehicle that wasn’t street-legal. Since then, Doherty has received several more traffic charges which include multiple DUIs, and has been caught driving with a suspended license several times. In total, Doherty has received a half-dozen driving offenses, which was a wake-up call for his personal life. Doherty said that he got sober in late 2019 and hasn’t looked back since.

Lindsay Lohan

Life isn’t always easy for a former child star, and that includes the likes of Lindsay Lohan. After getting her start in acting at just 10 years old, Lohan became a big star during her teens and early 20s before personal troubles got in the way.

Like Doherty, Lindsay Lohan’s string of driving troubles got started in 2007. While under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Lohan crashed her car in Beverly Hills. Just two months later she was arrested again for the same thing (without a crash this time). Lohan cleaned up her act for several years, but then clipped someone accidentally with her car in 2012. All in all, Lohan has had several accidents and multiple DUI arrests.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is an icon in the music world, bursting onto the scene during the late 1990s when bubblegum pop was dominating the charts. Spears maintained her fame well into the new millennium and has been dubbed ‘The Princess of Pop’ as a result of that success. She has also had her troubles away from the stage and recording studio, though.

Wouldn’t you know it, Spears had a rough 2007 in terms of driving. Spears was involved in a hit-and-run, and it turned out that she didn’t have a valid driver’s license. She was looking at a potential prison sentence but was able to avoid any jail time. There were some other times when her driving was simply criticized, too. Spears was pictured driving with a baby on her lap and has gotten stranded multiple times for flat tires and running out of gas.

Dennis Rodman

Dennis Rodman is certainly among the most unique players in NBA history. He always stood out thanks to his demeanor both on and off the court, as well as his colorful hairstyle choices. The rebounding machine played professionally for 20 years, winning five NBA titles along the way.

Rodman has had several run-ins with the law, many of which have been while he was behind the wheel. Rodman’s first arrest came in 1999 when he was detained for drunk driving and not having a valid license. He was able to avoid prison but was arrested for the same crime less than five years later in Las Vegas. In 2016, still without a license, Rodman was charged with a hit-and-run, and just two years later was picked up again for driving under the influence. 

Tiger Woods

If you were to ask anyone in the world to name just one golfer, they’d probably say Tiger Woods. After all, he became the face of the sport at a young age and has won more major tournaments than any other golfer not named Jack Nicklaus. Woods is a sports icon, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021.

Rodman isn’t the only famous athlete who has had his fair share of troubles with automobiles. Not many people will forget the fallout from Woods’s affair while he was married to Elin Nordegren, resulting in Woods crashing his SUV into a fire hydrant and tree. Nearly a decade later, Woods was arrested for driving under the influence after he was found sleeping in his car. Then, in 2021, Woods was involved in a single-car accident, rolling over his SUV several times, nearly claiming his life.

When we’re growing up, we’re told that our grades are pretty much the most important aspect of our lives. Getting good grades in high school can lead to getting into a prestigious college, and getting good grades in college can lead to a high-paying job. Just because someone is smart and dedicated, though, doesn’t always mean they’ll get good grades.

There have been plenty of people who have found massive success in their lives without a top-level grade point average. Before you stress too much about your own grades, here are five people who struggled with their GPA but went on to become some of the top people in their field of work.

Al Gore

Al Gore served as the Vice President of the United States throughout the presidency of Bill Clinton and nearly became the president himself during the 2000 election. These days, Gore is a businessman and environmentalist who spreads awareness for climate change.

Gore may have gotten into Harvard, but he struggled on certain tests and received low grades in many of his classes. In fact, Gore got a ‘D’ grade in one class (Natural Sciences) and got just a 488 out of 800 on a physics exam (and 519 in chemistry). Gore was able to do well in other classes, however, and his combination of SAT scores and IQ test scores showed that he was smart and just didn’t apply himself in some classes.

George W. Bush

Al Gore would end up losing the 2000 election to George W. Bush, who became just the second president in history to follow in his father’s footsteps to the White House. Bush, like Gore, also went to an Ivy League school but struggled throughout much of his academic career. 

Bush’s SAT scores were much lower than Gore’s, and he received low 70s marks in his PS14a and PS13b tests. Bush has talked about his grades, saying to the 2015 class at SMU that “To those of you who are graduating this afternoon with high honors, awards, and distinctions, I say, ‘Well done.’ And as I like to tell the C students; You too can be president.”

Steven Spielberg

Perhaps the most famous director to ever live, Steven Spielberg has been behind the camera for some of Hollywood’s greatest films. This includes the “Indiana Jones” series, “Jurassic Park”, and many more.

Spielberg’s attention didn’t go toward school while he was growing up as he was fully locked into movie-making. One of the main reasons why Spielberg struggled in school was because he suffers from dyslexia. “It is something that I have had since I was a child,” Spielberg dais. “It was not fun to go to elementary school and have other students and teachers not understand my reading problems…When you are a child you have to achieve a different balance when you find yourself to be dyslexic.”

Jon Stewart

During the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, Jon Stewart found his footing as an actor and comedian, but his career really took off in 1999 when he was tabbed to take over hosting duties for “The Daily Show”. Stewart hosted the series for 16 years, and started his own show “The Problem with Jon Stewart” in 2021.

Stewart said that he was more focused on the inner workings of the real world while growing up, but was still able to get into the College of William & Mary where he starred as a soccer player. Stewart’s extracurriculars were more important to him, and he admitted that his college career mainly consisted of waking up late and taking other people’s notes before soccer practice. He spoke to the W&M graduation class 20 years after his graduation, saying “College is something you complete. Life is something you experience. So don’t worry about your grade, or the results, or success. Love what you do. Get good at it.”

Jeremy Clarkson

“Top Gear” is one of the most beloved television shows in British history, and it wouldn’t have been as successful as it was without the hosting abilities of Jeremy Clarkson. Clarkson has been a part of several other shows including “Robot Wars” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”

Each year, Clarkson likes to remind those who take the A-Level in the United Kingdom that he didn’t do so well on his either (or school in general). In an annual post on Twitter, Clarkson notes that he received a ‘C’ grade on the A-Level but has still been able to obtain success. “Don’t worry if your A level results are disappointing,” he says each year. “I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently holidaying on this boat.” That’s just one of the many examples of Clarkson showing off that grades aren’t everything. 

If you haven’t been trained in acting, it can be extremely hard to give a convincing performance on-screen. Movie studios are willing to take a chance on singers, though, as their name power alone can help bring in audiences. There have been some truly poor performances from singers who dabble in acting for the first time, but there have also been some great ones.

Let’s take a look at some of the musicians who wowed audiences with their performances, with several of them getting nominated for Academy Awards. Here are our picks for the five best acting performances from those who came from the music industry.

Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls)

Jennifer Hudson made waves in 2004 when she appeared on the third season of “American Idol” as a contestant. Hudson made it deep into the competition, but ultimately fell short as she finished in seventh place. Still, Hudson made a big impact during that time. Hudson didn’t go into singing after her “Idol” days, though, but instead went into acting.

In 2006, Hudson made her acting debut in the biopic “Dreamgirls” playing real-life singer Effie White. Hudson, like her co-star Beyonce Knowles, was nominated for an Oscar. Out of the two, Hudson was the only one to take home the trophy, winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, Hudson has starred in films including “Chi-Raq” and “Respect”, this time playing Aretha Franklin.

Eminem (8 Mile)

During the late 1990s, underground Detroit rapper Eminem hit the mainstream when he was discovered by Dr. Dre and released his first debut with Aftermath, “The Slim Shady LP”, in 1999. Born Marshall Mathers, Eminem is considered by many to be the greatest rapper ever due to his songwriting and flow. He hasn’t dabbled much in acting, but when he has, it’s been memorable.

Eminem’s best role came when he played a fictionalized version of himself in the hit film “8 Mile” in 2002. The film had a large budget, but it ended up paying off as it grossed nearly a quarter-billion at the box office. Taking on the part of Jimmy (a.k.a. B-Rabbit), Eminem gave a heartfelt performance with audiences able to tell that Eminem tapped into his Detroit upbringing for the performance.

Cher (Moonstruck)

Cher had a little acting work early in her career with then-husband Sonny Bono when the two had a variety show together. However, Cher mainly was known for her music career in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to hit songs like “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”, “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves”, and “Dark Lady”. 

After the height of her music career, Cher got into acting during the early 1980s. After appearing in “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean”, she starred in the 1983 film “Silkwood”, leading to her first Oscar nomination. Four years later, she starred as Loretta Castorini in the hit film “Moonstruck”, this time earning herself her first Oscar win.

Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born)

Lady Gaga burst onto the scene in the mid-2000s with the release of her debut album “The Fame” which featured a long list of massive hits. She quickly became one of the most popular names in music and was even chosen to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show. After accomplishing basically all she could in music, Gaga turned her attention to acting.

That’s when she starred in the remake of the 1954 film “A Star Is Born”, playing Ally Maine. Gaga was nominated for a pair of Oscars, taking home the title for Best Original Song (“Shallow”), but was snubbed for Best Actress.

Mary J. Blige (Mudbound)

Mary J. Blige is music royalty as many consider her to be the Queen of R&B. Blige churned out hits in the 1990s and 2000s including “Family Affair”, “Real Love” and “I Can Love You”. Blige made her acting debut in 2001 with “Prison Song”, but it would be a long time until she returned. In 2017, she came back in a big way, playing the role of Florence Jackson in “Mudbound”.

Blige starred alongside the likes of Carey Mulligan and Garrett Hedlund in a critically acclaimed performance. Like Lady Gaga, Blige was nominated for both acting and singing at the Academy Awards. While she didn’t win either title, she did get the nod for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song (“Mighty River”).
