World’s Best Spots for Sport Fishing

For hundreds of years, countless fishermen make their way to the seas to grab the biggest game fish that they can. Now, more than ever, sport fishing has become more accessible and it’s increasing the number of participants continuously. Whether you’re just now getting into the sport or are an experienced fisherman, you’re probably looking for the best spots in the world for these big game fish. When booking your next sport fishing vacation, check out these spots that were rated as the tops in the world.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Hawaii is already the best state for fishing in the United States due to the deep seas, so it can be tough to pick the best spot. However, Kailua-Kona stands out and has several charter boats going out each day to catch some of the biggest marlins that you can imagine. Off the big island, you’ll see marlins that are well over 1,000 pounds and can be caught at any time of the year. Locals claim that it’s the only place in the world where both of these statements are facts.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

There’s a reason that the largest sport fishing organization, the Sport Fishing Championship, concludes their season in San Juan. That’s because the Puerto Rican capital is home to the International Billfish Tournament each August when all of the largest fish can be caught. San Juan has earned several nicknames for its fishing potential, including Billfish Pass and Blue Marlin Alley. You don’t have to wait until the big event to enjoy San Juan, though, as blue marlin season starts in May and goes all the way into September.

Lizard Island, Australia

Located in Queensland, Australia on the Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is a national park that’s known just as much for its fishing as it is for its lizards. Some of the fish that can be caught just off of Lizard Island include queenfish, trevally, and mackerel, with plenty of charter options depending on what you want to catch. If you’re looking for the biggest fish that the reef has to offer, the ride is about 50 minutes from the coast where you can catch black marlins and tuna.

The Bahamas

More than 50 fishing world records are held off the coast of the Bahamas and its 16 islands. Marlin, sailfish, and tuna are just a few of the fish that can be caught at this beautiful tourist favorite.

Key West, Florida

Among the most popular sport fishing destinations on the American mainland, Key West brings in thousands of people every year to either take out their own boats or hop on a charter. No matter how you’re getting onto the water, you’re going to catch some massive fish. Marlin, tuna, and kingfish are among the many that you’ll see, and dolphins can even be spotted during certain parts of the day. Going fishing in Key West isn’t just a one-day event, with different marinas offering different types of game fish.

Prince Edward Island, Canada

The smallest province in all of Canada, Prince Edward Island, also bases most of its economy on fishing and tourism. It’s no surprise, either, as Prince Edward Island is home to some of the world’s largest tuna and mackerel. The season for deep-sea fishing is shorter due to the northern climate of Prince Edward Island, but it’s a great summer destination with a lot to offer, including charters that are specific to certain types of fish.

Alphonse Island, Seychelles

While Africa doesn’t get a lot of global attention for its fishing, it really should. This is especially true for the eastern side of the continent where you’ll find the island country of Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. There are more than a dozen exotic species of fish to be caught off of Alphonse Island, including bonefish, trevally, milkfish, and many more.

Locations of the Sport Fishing Championships

Each year, the best sport fishermen in the world travel North America to compete for the most prestigious award in the field: The Sport Fishing Championship. After years of independent tournaments, the SFC was formed to determine a season-long champion across some of the best sport fishing spots on the continent. There are 11 tournaments throughout the season, and here’s a look at where they are:

Montauk, New York

The SFC season gets started with a qualifying event at the New York Offshore Open in Montauk, New York, with sport fishermen settling at the Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina. Montauk is a world-famous fishing destination located at the very eastern top of Long Island and is home to the most saltwater fishing records in the world.

Grand Isle & Venice, Louisiana

Dozens of sport fishermen take off from Cypress Cove Marina in Venice, Louisiana. This is the home of the Louisiana Gulf Coast Billfish Classic, which is a week-long party that spans two of the most popular fishing spots in the gulf.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The only trip the SFC takes out of the United States during the season is to the Dominican Republic for the CNSD White Marlin Tournament. The tournament is held at Club Nautico, a popular tourist destination located at the eastern tip of the island country where warm weather is a guarantee.

St. Augustine, Florida

On the hunt for more marlin, St. Augustine is home to the NEFMA Bluewater Tournament, one of the longest-running professional sport fishing events. Held prior to Memorial Day weekend, St. Augustine hosts the fishermen at the Camatchee Cove Yacht Harbor.

Orange Beach, Alabama

Among the biggest sport fishing tournaments of the year is the Gulf Coast Masters which has a six-figure prize pool. Located at the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club, this Memorial Day weekend classic is nationally televised with many locals staying at the Perdido Beach Resort to take in the action.

Biloxi, Mississippi

Not too far from the Gulf Coast Masters is the next event, the SFC Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic in Biloxi. Each June, the SFC’s top fishermen catch thousands of pounds of marlin and get to have a lot of fun in the process since the tournament’s headquarters are located at the Golden Nugget casino.

Miramar Beach, Florida

A return to the marlins of Florida, the next event is the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic, which has been taking place since the early 2000s. With over 80 competitors each year, this SFC event takes place in late June with the Hotel Effie Sandestin being the HQ in Miramar Beach.

Cape May, New Jersey

For a couple of weeks in July, the SFC heads to the northeast, starting with the South Jersey Yacht Sales Offshore Showdown. One of the younger tournaments to be included in the SFC, the SJYSOS is hosted in a resort town with plenty to offer for spectators and fishermen alike.

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

The final northeastern event on the SFC calendar is at the gorgeous Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Known as the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic, this tournament has a pair of marinas to operate from with some of the best sights of the tour.

South Padre Island, Texas

The SFC’s only stop in Texas on the year is at South Padre Island for the Texas International Fishing Tournament. This tournament draws in perhaps the largest crowd of the year with tens of thousands of people partying at the Laguna Madre Bay off of the Gulf of Mexico.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Among the most popular sport fishing destinations in the world, San Juan, Puerto Rico plays host to the final event of the SFC season, with the famous San Juan International Billfish Tournament. Taking place in mid-August over four weeks, “Blue Marlin Alley” is where some of the biggest catches of the year are made.

What Did The First ATP Tennis Ranking Look Like?

To determine who the best tennis players in the world are, a rankings system is used with players compiling points throughout the events of the previous 52 weeks. Though not a perfect method for determining the top players in order, it’s a great way to determine who has been the strongest performer on the biggest stages in the past year.

Breaking down how the system works, winning Grand Slam events is obviously the fastest way to get big points, with the champion of each of the four tournaments receiving 2,000 ATP points. Points are also given to anyone reaching the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam. Other tournaments aren’t nearly as prestigious points-wise, but you can still get 1,000 for winning an ATP Masters 1000 event. Points are given all the way down to the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour with Futures M15 event winners taking home 15 ATP points.

The ATP rankings haven’t always been a part of professional tennis, however. In the early days of the sport, the criteria to enter tournaments and where you were placed in the bracket were strictly up to tournament personnel and the tennis federations for each country. Then, the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) union was born in 1973, paving the way for earlier rounds of the tournament to be more balanced while the later rounds were more competitive with the top players frequently meeting for the title instead of at random spots throughout a tournament.

As part of the union forming, an objective rankings system was one of the biggest goals that players had in mind. Beforehand, rankings were determined mostly by how big of a draw a certain player was. “The ranking system was a hot point for the players and it continued to be very important,” said Stan Smith, a player who had been at the top of the rankings during that time.

With players taking more control of professional tennis over the organizers, the rankings system was finally introduced to the world for men’s singles tennis on August 23, 1973. In that first edition, Bob Kramer had been gathering results for the past 52 weeks in any way that he could. Whether it be mail or telephone, Kramer spent countless hours making sure the rankings were just right.

With 186 players being ranked in total, legendary American player Jimmy Connors started off the top 10. Tom Okker, Adriano Panatta, John Newcombe, and Ken Rosewall took the ninth through sixth spots, respectively. Australian Rod Laver was in the fifth spot, with Arthur Ashe just ahead of him. The previously mentioned Stan Smith was in third, with Spain’s Manuel Orantes at second. Finally, the world’s first ATP number one ranked player was Ilie Nastase of Romania.

Nastase would go on to win seven Grand Slam titles across singles and doubles competitions and was actually the first athlete to endorse the Nike brand. A member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Nastase was one of the few players that were apprehensive of the rankings despite being number one, saying that the number was “hanging” over each player. In regards to being the inaugural number one, Nastase said “I won eight tournaments in a row to do it.”

A little more than two years after the men received their first ranking, the WTA rankings were released for the first time in November 1975. Chris Evert was the first female at the top of the world rankings, and she would reach that number one spot on nine different occasions in her illustrious career.

As for who has held the most time spent at number one since the rankings were released, they are records that are unlikely to ever be broken. A player on either the men’s or women’s side would have to hold the number spot for more than a combined seven years to top Novak Djokovic or Steffi Graf.

How To Get Better At Scrabble – Without Needing To Cheat

There are a lot of games that withstand the test of time, and Scrabble is certainly one of them. From the classic board game to digital versions, Scrabble is a staple of the game world with thousands of clubs spread over 100 countries. Even Scrabble GO, the online version, had more than 2.5 million people playing at its peak every day. There’s one big question that everyone has when playing Scrabble, though: How do I get better?

Due to the anonymity of playing online, your opponent can’t see that you’re cheating if you decide to go that route. If you want to do things the old-fashioned way and simply hone your skills, there are some tips for doing just that. Some of the top players in the world have suggested ways to improve your score by up to 50 points per game, and it might be easier than you think.

One tip that many people might not consider is the use of the two-letter word. With over 100 of them in the Scrabble dictionary, two-letter words can help you branch off into double or triple letter/word spaces easily. For example, let’s say there’s a triple letter score hanging just above an ‘A’ tile. If you were to put a ‘Z’ in that space, you’re getting big points and can make a word around the ‘Z’ to juice it up even more.

The next tip is to not play the same people over and over. This is where online play becomes a huge bonus since you can play anonymous people from around the world and learn different styles and words. Even in losses, you can learn a lot about how to play Scrabble. If you can, try to take on some of the highest competition available and make mental notes throughout the game to use for your next match.

The best players in the world all make use of the bonus spaces. Even if you’re not maximizing your points when using them, you’re still preventing your opponent from possibly getting a triple-digit score for one word. Just like in sports, defense is just as important as any offensive attack. If you can run parallel words and eat up those bonus spaces at the same time, you’ll be in ultimate control over your opponent as they scramble to find anywhere to put their tiles.

If you can’t find someone to play against online, you can always just take on the computer. To really get some tips on how to improve your skill to the highest level, crank up the difficulty and find words and placements that you never would’ve imagined. It makes it a lot easier to lose, too, knowing that you’re being defeated by an AI designed to play Scrabble rather than someone that can trash talk you for not knowing that “Pfft” was an acceptable Scrabble word.

Lastly, you have to know what tiles you have in your rack. If you have a blank tile, hang on to it for as long as you can, especially if one of those coveted triple-word spaces becomes available. That tile, while blank tiles might not be worth anything themselves, they can help to form a word that seals a victory for you. For tiles that have higher point values, try to unload them as quickly as you can. If you have a couple of them in your rack when the game ends, it can go from what seemed like a 10-point win to a 20-point loss in a hurry.

With these tips in mind, you can start to boost your average Scrabble score almost immediately. You don’t have to memorize the Scrabble dictionary to be a top player, you just have to know the intricacies of the game itself to really stand out.

5 Weirdest Decisions Made by Football Clubs

History is filled with head-scratching decisions. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the bizarre world of football.

While players make poor moves on a regular basis, they can quickly make up for these mistakes with a timely goal or a clutch tackle. Management isn’t so lucky. A terrible decision can set a club back years — and it may even lead to relegation or financial ruin.

Ready for a good chuckle or a major eye roll? Keep reading to learn about the strangest decisions made by supposedly talented club executives.

Frank de Boer Hired by Crystal Palace

On the job at Inter Milan for only 85 days, Frank de Boer had the club in last place in both Serie A and the UEFA Europa League when he was sacked. Curiously, Crystal Palace decided de Boer was the right man for the job.

He was gone less than three months later — after leading Crystal Palace to four losses in four games and without a single goal scored. These results were — quite frankly — very predictable given de Boer’s recent track record.

Steve Kean Appointed as Manager of Blackburn Rovers

Without any credentials to his name, Steve Kean was appointed the manager of Rovers in 2010. Unfortunately, it’s possible that Kean landed the job through dubious measures. Kean’s agent was an influential figure within the new ownership group, which almost certainly gave Kean a significant leg up over the competition. After two subpar seasons and a relegation, Kean was shown the door at Rovers.

Southampton Sign Ali Dia

In 1996, a man posing as football icon George Weah convinced Southampton manager Graeme Souness to sign his cousin. Souness took the bait and offered the man a contract despite having never seen him play in person.

Against all odds as well as good sense, the man found his way into a match and managed to stay on the pitch for more than fifty minutes. The man was quickly exposed as a fraud and released from his contract with the team.

Tottenham Sack Jose Mourinho before EFL Cup Final

Consecutive North London derby victories — as well as a brief stint atop the Premier League — gave Spurs and Jose Mourinho all the momentum heading into 2021.

After hitting a rough patch that saw the club knocked out of both the FA Cup and Europa League, Spurs ownership decided to show Mourinho the door after less than 18 months on the job. This lack of patience was only exasperated by the fact that he was sacked just days before Spurs were set to play Manchester City in the EFL Cup Final. Predictably, Spurs dropped the match 1-0.

Juventus and Barcelona Swapping Arthur Melo for Miralem Pjanic

After greatly exaggerating the value of their respective players, Barcelona and Juventus swapped Melo for Pjanic in a move that some journalists — and even the Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian Football Federation — suspect was illegal. Neither player made a splash with their new club, with Pjanic appearing in only 19 games for Barcelona, while Melo has quietly existed on the Juventus roster.

Not all football decisions make sense to passionate fans, but therein lies the fun of the game: you never know what to expect. Whether foolish, unethical, or simply bizarre, these twists and turns keep us watching.

5 Footballers Who Gave The Most Entertaining Post-Match Interviews

The post-match interview feels like a dreaded chore to some footballers, but others find it as exhilarating as any athletic pursuit. Some of the world’s best players use this platform as a chance to show off their distinctive personalities. From self-deprecating humor to dry wit and sarcasm, these five players are even more entertaining to watch after they leave the field:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

This slick striking Swede always has something on his mind after a match — whether it’s disdain for the referees, his opponents — or sometimes, even his teammates.

One notable Zlatan moment saw the gregarious Manchester United star prodding teammate Paul Pogba over his hesitancy to pass the ball Ibrahimovic’s way. Pogba took it all in stride and was eventually forced to pass one thing Zlatana’s way: his Premier League Man of the Match award.

David Luiz

Former Chelsea and Arsenal star David Luiz can make even the most boring post-match interview entertaining. One particular conference found Luiz trapped between Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres. As the two droned on in a sleep-inducing tone, Luiz tried his best to bring some lightheartedness to the proceedings through non-verbal expressions. After nearly three minutes, Luiz was finally allowed to speak, with his only words being an exuberant “Come on Chelsea!” as he threw his arms around his teammates.

Mohammad Anas

During a very heartfelt and sincere acceptance of his Man of the Match Award, Free State Stars striker Mohammad Anas had an unfortunate slip of the tongue. While thanking his fans, Anas also thanked “my wife, and my girlfriend.” Anas quickly attempted to correct himself, but at that point he had already gone viral throughout the world. Thankfully, his speaking error didn’t lead to a red card at home, as Anas is still happily married.

Erling Haaland

Sometimes an interview is made more entertaining by what isn’t said. Case in point: Erling Haaland — the Manchester City striker who refuses to elaborate when asked inane questions about what makes him great. Ironically, when the striker finally did speak up during his first Premier League post-match interview, he let slip some profanity that quickly got him reprimanded by the interviewer (but that fans enjoyed nonetheless).

Michail Antonio

Sky Sports couldn’t help themselves from exposing the planned celebration of West Ham forward Michail Antonio after he set the club’s Premier League scoring mark. When the interviewers showed Antonio stashing a cardboard cutout of himself in the crowd, the gig was up — and Antonio had no choice but to have a laugh about the whole thing.

When asked if he could stay atop the Premier League scoring table, Antonio remarked “Obviously!” Given his penchant for memorable goal celebrations, this won’t be the last time everyone has a laugh over his pitch antics.

There’s no denying that the best footballers are as comedically gifted as they are athletically capable. There’s no better opportunity to get a sense of this than with the post-match interview, which should be essential viewing for every true football fan.

Archery: How To Get Started And Why You Should

Far, far before the days that rifles were used in hunting or sport, humans used bows and arrows. This is why archery is one of the oldest sports in the world, dating back to ancient times when we had to use arrows to take down animals for food. Now, archery is seen as more of a hobby where we attempt to hit small targets from varying distances. Archery has maintained its spot as a global sport, staying on the Olympic stage throughout the years.

A lot of people get interested in archery every few years when they see it at the Olympics, and there was also an influx of intrigue when “The Hunger Games” series became popular. Getting into archery isn’t the easiest thing, and beginners can tend to feel overwhelmed. For starters, there are different types of bows, with the two primary being the compound and recurve, with the latter being the ideal for beginners who want to know the intricacies of archery.

You’ll want to get familiar with the bow and its parts, including the string, sight, riser, limbs and nock point. As for which bow you select, it’s really up to how comfortable you feel. The best practice is to work with an expert and find a range that allows you to both learn and get some practice. Bows aren’t as expensive as they used to be, thankfully, with archery being one of those sports where the technology has become more accessible to the average person.

With that said, you don’t have to be Robin Hood on your first try to really get into archery. The most valuable tool is working with someone that has knowledge and can coach you into finding your comfort zone. Practice, of course, makes perfect, so don’t give up on your archery dreams before they even start. For some added motivation, here are some reasons why you should get started in archery.

Physical Health

People tend to think that archery is standing around and shooting an arrow then calling it a day, while not taking much physical fitness. However, good archers tend to be in better shape than most of your favorite baseball players. That’s because archery requires tremendous core strength, as well as strength from the arms, back and shoulders. You’ll likely be tremendously sore from archery at first, but less so when you build your strength up over the first few weeks.

Mental Health

Think about the time you’ve done a physical activity like jogging/walking, cycling or really anything else. You’ve probably been hyper focused and afterward felt like you were in a better overall mood. This is especially true for archery, as it requires the physical activity that produces natural endorphins to help improve your mood, and there’s the mental aspect of archery, especially when it comes to focus and patience. Archery is basically meditation in this regard, and you’ll feel a lot calmer overall.

Year-Round Sport

The great thing about archery is that you don’t need it to be sunny with no wind and 70 degrees outside. There are plenty of indoor ranges that make archery a sport that you can participate in all 12 months of the year. With that in mind, it doesn’t feel like a waste of money when you can pick up archery at any point. It also helps to combat some of those winter blues when you find an indoor range.

The 5 Most Popular Sports In The World

Sports are something the entire world shares in common. But which sports are the most beloved? Do Americans and Europeans enjoy the same sports? The answer may surprise you! Here are the top 5 most popular sports in the world.

1. Football

Football is also called soccer and is consistently ranked the top sport around the globe. It has over 4 billion fans! It was codified in the 19th century in England around the time of Queen Victoria. One of the reasons that football is so popular across the world is because of its extremely low cost. You really only need a soccer ball to get started! Other countries where football is popular include Africa, Canada, China, and the United States.

2. Cricket

Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world, but many people in America don’t know what this sport is. For those who are unfamiliar with the game, it is a bat-and-ball sport similar to baseball, where players try to score runs. Cricket has 2.5 billion fans worldwide and is most common in Australia, India, and Pakistan. The main difference between cricket and baseball is that a cricket field has a long, rectangular pitch at its center instead of a baseball mound. A pitcher in cricket is called a bowler, whose purpose is to put down the wicket at either end of the field.

3. Hockey

Hockey is next up on the list of most popular sports across the globe. At 2 billion fans, hockey is almost as popular as cricket! The two types of hockey that people like to play are ice hockey and field hockey. Ice hockey is very popular in Canada and Europe. The main difference between ice hockey and field hockey is the aggressive body checking seen in ice hockey.  Field hockey takes place outdoors in a field and involves players using a hockey stick to guide a ball down the field and into the other team’s net. Field hockey usually does not allow body checking. If you want to play a safer version of hockey, field hockey is your best bet!

4. Tennis

Tennis is the fourth most popular sport in the world with 1 billion fans. This sport requires players to apply both their cognitive abilities and their physical prowess. The most famous tennis player in the world is Serena Williams, followed by Roger Federer. The word “tennis” is derived from the French word “tenez,” which means to “receive” or “take” something. As both a non-contact and low-impact sport, it’s one that many people can enjoy even if they aren’t able to do things like jogging or swimming.

5. Volleyball

The fifth and final most popular sport worldwide is volleyball with 900 million fans. It can be played indoors on a basketball court or volleyball court, or on a beach. All you need to play volleyball is a net, a volleyball, and enough players. Volleyball is more popular in some countries than others, like Australia, Asia, and the U.S. This is a very physical sport, with players jumping on average around 300 times every game! In professional or college-level volleyball, the ball can go as fast as 87 MPH! The sport originated in America in 1895 and at that time, the ball was called a “mintonette.”

The 5 Biggest Sports Clubs In The World

Sports clubs generate enthusiasm and loyalty from its fanbase. Millions of fans the world over dedicate hours of their time following and watching their favorite sports teams play. They also spend millions of dollars supporting their favorite sports clubs. Sales money coming into sports clubs includes tickets, official team merchandise, and more. The five biggest sports clubs in the world have both a huge fanbase and make the most money. Let the countdown begin.

Number 5 on our list is Real Madrid. Real Madrid is a soccer team based in Madrid, Spain. The value of Real Madrid is an estimated $4.75 billion, so if you want to buy this team, start saving now. They hold the record for the most Champion League victories, including the inaugural competition. The team rarely disappoints fans.

Number 4 on our list also comes from Spain. It’s Barcelona soccer team. Valued at $4.76 billion, this team is  only slightly ahead of Real Madrid in terms of size and popularity. Interestingly, FC Barcelona was founded in 1899, by a motley group of footballers from Spain, Germany, England and Switzerland. Today its team members hail from even more countries, worldwide.

Number 3 on our list of the five biggest sports clubs in the world is the New York Knicks, NBA champions. Valued at $5 billion, the Knicks are owned by Madison Square Garden Sports. Knicks is actually shortened from Knickerbockers, which is the name the original founder gave his new team. Knickerbockers are a style of rolled up pants that used to be popular in the 1600s.

Number 2 is the New York Yankees, of Major League Baseball. Owned by the Steinbrenner family through an LLC, the Yankees are still based out of New York City. The Steinbrenners paid a handsome $8.8 million for the team back in 1973. We would call that a good investment, considering that their current value is $5.25 billion. The Yankees major fan competition is the New York Mets, but they aren’t even on our list. Of the five biggest sports clubs in the world. The Yankees have been called the most successful professional sports team in the U.S., with 27 World Series championships under their belt. Not too shabby.

Finally, we get to the top player on our list of the five biggest sports clubs on the globe. It’s the Dallas Cowboys, owned by Jerry Jones. Jones paid a mere $150 million for this football team in 1989. It’s now valued at $5.7 billion. The Cowboys have an estimated 8.35 million Facebook fans, and that’s not even counting fans who aren’t on social media. The home games of the Dallas Cowboys are attended by over 727 thousand people annually.

So that’s it, sports fans. If you’ve ever wondered which are the five biggest sports clubs in the world, now you know. So if you want to root for the biggest sports clubs, you’ve got your list to choose from, among soccer, American football, basketball and baseball.

Top 5 Craziest Sports Stars

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie is an incredible basketball player and a great human being who’ll talk to anyone. He’s respected as one of the greats, was rookie of the year, has a ring from 2016, has played on the all-star team seven times, and even won the MVP award for the 2014 All-Star Game.

He also said the world is flat, and there was a conspiracy to kill JFK. Honestly, there needn’t be any further summation.

Dennis Rodman

If there is a list without Dennis Rodman in the top five, the person who wrote it should receive some mandatory testing. Besides the hair dyed every color, the original piercings, and wearing a wedding dress in public, yeeeaaahhh, we’re open-minded. So what? You know, if he’s happy, who cares?

But multiple trips to North Korea and calling the tyrant, murderous Kim Jon-Un a friend for life is the tipping point. Rodman now goes over frequently to a country with horrific human rights abuses to train their basketball team.

Mike Tyson

Oh, Mike. We love you regardless of how you’ve been insane over your career. Maybe that’s the appeal. Everyone loved you in the Hangover movies. And, you’ve become like the seasoned older guy with his own Adult Swim cartoon. But here is a pretty definitive list:

  • 1987, you bit off Evander Holyfield’s ear! WTF?
  • During your career, you used insane amounts of cocaine and admitted to using a fake penis for drug tests.
  • Three years were spent in prison for rape, but upon release in 1995, you mostly were a changed man.
  • Reporters that interviewed you were terrified. Always.
  • The face tattoo was a sign of insanity when you got it, but we all think it is cool now. I am considering it.

Diego Maradona

Maradona is still a legend; there are shrines with candles that never burn out in Argentina, but the guy was not mentally well. Maradona’s list makes Tyson look like he just needed a little Wellbutrin.

Where does one even begin between three-day cocaine binges, karate kicking people, and shooting journalists with an air rifle?

Let’s just go with elbowing one player in the face and putting a knee to another player’s head, all in one move. That’s good enough.

Tonya Harding

Yes, her name has been on our lists before, but when it comes to crazy, how can this not be the Mac Daddy of crazy? You’re a top skater bound for the Olympics. Still, you hate that another skater is “America’s Sweetheart” and favored over you…

… so you just hire some guy to bust her knee cap with a police baton.

Harding went on to run up a considerable “crazy list.” Still, this one act has resulted in movies and sports lookbacks for decades.

If one thing is sure, no matter how talented or how much you make, you’re no less predisposed to go absolutely nuts. These are just five situations, and almost every week in the NFL produces one or two such situations.

Could it be that the crazy draws us to the sport a bit more sometimes? In a world that watches “Married at First Sight,” we love crazy.
